Community Canvas Projects
This ongoing community project began with HeArt in Progress, a large canvas created during the January 21st 2017Women's March in Victoria BC on display at various community venues.
The idea is to co-create a series of large community canvases reflecting views, dialogues, and moments we have something to express.
Pictured below is the canvas from the Women's March in 2017 in Victoria, BC
Below is a canvas about Canada in honor of Canada 150, co-created by 50 or so individuals.
A community canvas created over the course of the day as people wandered past in the forest at the ROOT Victoria Spring event.
Below is an 8 foot canvas mural. Based on the brainstorming and sketches of Senior's and painted by students and community artists this mural was used for a scene in the community theatre piece "Under-told Stories" as part of the Remembering Our Canada project. During a poetry slam scene during which poets performed original pieces about Canada this mural formed the backdrop. Graphic recording artist Tara Shanks and visual artist Kristy Brugman were using paint markers to live-draw onto the mural as inspired by the words being spoken. In the final scene the lead characters use a can of spray paint to make a bold statement on the mural. This mural went through various stages prior to reaching its co-creative completion.
